Carrier-based aircraft is the main arm of carrier, and the safety of carrier mostly depends on that if the carrier-based aircraft can take off immediately and safely. As a technology used in many countries, carrier-based aircraft catapult launching has many advantages and wide foreground. Up to now, little academic and experimental work has been done, and many problems have not been solved completely in our country. Thus the systematical studies on the dynamic study of catapult launching have not only the important significance, but also a practical value. With the development of dynamics of multibody systems and computer technique, ADAMS, as the representative of virtual prototype technique software, comes up. It makes dynamic analysis and calculation easier. Based on the process of catapult launching and the theory of dynamic of multibody systems, a 5 DOF multibody dynamic model is constructed, which is used to simulate the catapult launching motion of a carrier-based aircraft, and the dynamic equations of the model are derived. Then by using the ADAMS software, a virtual prototype of a carrier-based aircraft is constructed for dynamic analysis. And the dynamic response characteristics of parameters such as center of mass position of the carrier-based aircraft, angle of attack and gas-spring force during the catapult launching process are gained. These simulation results are of some reference value to the design of the carrier-based aircraft. Finally the effects of the aircraft mass, the thrust and the initial angle of attack are discussed quantitatively. The conclusion of the simulation has shown that reducing the aircraft mass, increasing the thrust and the initial angle of attack are good for the catapulting performance.
