The school buildings in and near Wenchuan severely had been stroked by the magnificent earthquake in May 12, 2008. Many of them had been totally destroyed, that caused mass death of lives and huge loss of economy. In order to avoid the recurrence of the tragedy, the authority has lifted the security level of these kind of structures, based on the statistics of the data in earthquake zone, as well as the previous experience in seismic resistance. In this context, the behavior of existing school buildings during earthquake has been a focus by engineers, following by their various ways of reinforcement and transformation. Nevertheless, how to reinforcing these structures through a useful, economic and suitable way remains a predicament for the engineering field.This paper introduced the performance-based seismic assessment of methods, summed up the design of performance status at home and abroad, proposed the quantitative indicators of performance parameters initially,And combined with the Chinese seismic Identification standards, judged the deficiency of the school buildings that design in strict accordance with the design 89 Seismic design code; especially for single-bay cantilevered frame in different areas , presented four different strengthen scheme, used the finite element analysis program OpenSees to establish three-dimensional finite element model of the structure, for dynamic analysis under rare earthquake, compared the Seismic performance that have used the different Strengthen scheme .This study showed that the structure designed by 89 code could reach the performance level with OP in frequent earthquake and LS in rare earthquake, but which of them builded in seismic intensity area 8 had serious performance in plastic hinge. In the four retrofit program, the best is the one with shear wall, then the one with damper and with bracing, all of them can reduce the indicators of performance parameters. The last is the one increase a row of columns in the frame.In seismic intensity area 7 and 8, the program with column had more plastic hinge than the original model, it performanced worse than the original model, so it can be used only in seismic intensity area 6.
