Reinforced concrete frame structure is gradually applied in the construction of the primary and middle school buildings, because of its superior anti-seismic capability. In WenChuan earthquake, the seismic intensity in some area were far bigger than the seismic fortification intensity, and there were many primary and middle reinforced concrete frame school buildings collapsed in these arears. In other arears, many primary and middle reinforced concrete frame school buildings had appeared very good seismic performances. However, the staircase was seriously damaged in Wenchuan earthquake and became the severely afflicted area in the structural seismic damage. On the base of the current structure design method, it cannot make sure that staircase is secure in the earthquake. So we can draw the conclusion that it is significative to consider staircase in the research of entire anti-seismic design of structure.In the case of the primary and middle school buildings, it is a important approach to alleviate the seismic hazard and significative that apply the suitable analytical method in anti-seismic evaluation and suitable countermeasure in the structures which cannot meet the anti-seismic requirement.Based on the related research theories and methods, the following researches for reinforced concrete frame of primary and middle schools are presented:Firstly, this paper makes an investigation on collapse-resistant capacity of the structure in the method of Incremental Dynamic Analysis(IDA), which results from the summary of evaluation methods in existing reinforced concrete frame structure. Pushover analysis method is applicable in a mass of current primary and middle school buildings because of its speedy evaluation of structural anti-seismic performance. Secondly, the paper introduces some common forms of structure in primary and middle school buildings, makes an investigation and analyze on the damage of primary and middle school buildings in Wenchuan earthquake. According to which, it summarizes the main damage forms in kinds of school buildings which endured the earthquake and make a brief analysis on causes of damage. Thirdly, this paper makes a research of the influence which results from various quantity and location of the staircase on the entire structural anti-seismic performance of frame structure. The article presents some solutions that corresponding to the good aspect and bad aspect which caused by stair case to the structures and itself. Fourthly, considering the influence of different seismic source characteristics on the outcomes of the IDA, we analyze an existing frame structure which is built as a multiple-use building of a middle school by two groups of seismographic records, one is near-field seismology, the other is far-field seismology and obtain a result of the structural capabilities in various limit states. Finally, Pushover method is not only applicable in the structures those are not high in height and mainly vibrate in the first-vibration-mode but also suitable to make a speedy anti-seismic performance evaluation on two existing school buildings. So we can draw a conclusion that this method can make a speedy and effective evaluation of structural anti-seismic performance on current existing school buildings. But, we have to mention that this method enormously underestimates the structural response under the effect of near-field earthquake.
