At present, the number of tyre manufacture and sales keeps increasing ,and China has been an major country of tyre manufacture and consumption.The used tire is one of industrial hazardous solid wastes and has huge harm to the environment,and it is one of the most difficult solid waste to dispose. Every year thousands upon thousands of used tyres are discarded, for they won't degraded or decomposed in the nature, regardless of stacked, land filled or burned, they will bring new pollution. How to resolve this outstanding problem of used tire has attracted great attention in the worldwide. At the meantime, the rapid developement of highway construction requires a large capital investment. Crushing the used tire into rubber powder and making it as asphalt modifier, then full using of it in highway construction is the internationally recognize harmless and the best treatment way to dispose used tyre.This study introduces the current situation of rubber asphalt materials and does research on the rubber asphalt technology and its problems: such as low rubber dosage, serious environmental pollution, and limited road performance improvement and so on. The main contents include: the analysis of raw material of rubber asphalt, the research of mechanism of rubber modified asphalt, the choice of activation methods of asphalt rubber, the experiment and analysis of modified rubber asphalt.Through the analysis of components and performance of the modified rubber asphalt, the research initially described the reaction mechanism of the activation rubber asphalt. It also texted the performance of the rubber asphalt which activated in different ways. The experiment includes penetration, softening point, ductility, viscosity and elastic recovery. The paper analyzed the results, determined the appropriate activation method and the dosage of crumb rubber in the high dosage of crumb rubber modified asphalt. The results show that the performance of the rubber asphalt which used the crumb rubber activated by sodium hypochlorite is better than the ordinary rubber asphalt. The dosage of the activated crumb rubber can reach to 33%. The performance of the asphalt rubber which used the crumb rubber activated by waste machine oil has also been significantly improved. The dosage of the activated crumb rubber can reach to 49%. Because of the special nature of the waste machine oil, this activation method is simple and has high practical value. Finally, the paper summarizes the results of the study and proposes the further research direction of the high rubber dosage of asphalt rubber technology.
