The linear motor is a sort of transmission system that transfers electric energy to linear motion directly and more and more attention has been aroused to the linear motor because of its favorable features of simple structure, no centrifugal force, etc. Especially the transverse flux permanent magnet linear machines (TFPMLM for short) have shown a brilliant prospect in low speed, high torque systems. For the special configuration and large thrust force, it's necessary to develop a further research on the TFPMLM and its servo control system.In this paper, the servo control system of a transverse flux permanent magnet linear machine (TFPMLM) is investigated mostly. First of all, interior configuration and movement principle of TFPMLM and its basic electromagnetic relation are analyzed. At the same time, A vector control strategy called"id = 0"of digital servo system is confirmed that adopts three closed loop of position, velocity and current. The controllers have a great influence on control methods and system performance. The system adopts classic PID controllers. On the basis of PID controller principle, the design methods of controllers are researched and the construction and parameter of controllers are determined.Moreover with MATLAB/SIMULINK the simulation model of system in coordinate system is established after the simulation model of TFPMLM is established. The simulation results show that the control method and the controllers are appropriate for the system.Then the hardware and software are designed for the system. TMS320F2812 is the core chip and the incremental linear encoder is the primary position sensor for the system, which includes the control circuit, current protection circuit, power drive and position detection circuit. And in terms of software, the paper designs the program flowcharts using C language on CCS3.1 environment and debugs the program.The experiment system is built, including DC power supply, hardware plat-form, TFPMLM and incremental linear encoder. And some experiments including closed loop of position, velocity and to-and-fro experiment are carried out. So it is proved that such a position servo control scheme of TFPMLM called"i_d = 0"is operable by experiment.
