Transverse Flux Permanent Magnet Motor (TFPM) has good characteristics with low-speed, high torque density and high power density. TFPM has broad application fields especially in the field of electric drives such as motor vehicles, ships, warships, aerospace and wind power motor etc. This paper presents a new type of transverse flux permanent magnet motor, as well as analyses the motor parameters using magnetic circuit method and finite element method. The main conclusions are as follows:A new type of TFPM, with surface-type permanent magnet rotor structure and silicon steel stator structure, was designed. According to the new structure of transverse flux permanent magnet motor, the motor's operating principle was given. This paper also deduces the relationship between the motor torque density and stator, rotor as well as winding parameters, and comes to a reasonable method of designing motor size parameters.A structure model of motor equivalent magnetic circuit was created in this paper. In order to simplify the magnetic circuit model, a simplified structure model of motor equivalent magnetic circuit was given by ignoring the stator core reluctance. Moreover, the solving method of no-load main magnetic flux, no-load induced electromotive force and no-load inductance was given based on the simplified structure model.A three-dimensional finite element model of the motor was created and the model grid division was done using ANSYS finite element analysis software. According to different winding current values and different positions of stator and rotor, the motor magnetic flux density distribution, magnetic field intensity distribution, the output torque and inductance parameter were given through calculating the three dimensional finite element models. Finite element analysis results show that the new motor structure is reasonable.The constraint relationships between Motor power factor, torque density and the motor electromagnetic parameters were analyzed and the ways to improve motor performance were given. In response to this new type of transverse flux permanent magnet motor structure, the detailed manufacturing processing of the main components of the motor was given.
