Along with the growth of the world automobile industry, the development of new concept car is been valued by R&D institutions of automotive. This article takes a rhombic special-purpose vehicle as the object of study, giving a design of two typical power transmission system plans and raising a special discussion on the judgment of the two-wheel drive and four-wheel drive switching of the power transmission system. After comparing the transmission efficiency, the reliability and the consistency of two plans and analyzing the merits and dimerits of the two, a hybrid-driven power transmission system has been proposed. This article gives a detailed design process of the power transmission system.A brief introduction of the evaluation indicators for the power performance of the rhombic special-purpose vehicle under three working modes(engine-driven mode,motor-driven mode and hybrid-driven mode) has been given, and then the power performance (the max speed of wehicle, acceleration test and gradeability test) and trafficability of the vehicle are calculated. The results show that the power transmission system is satisfied with the requirements of the vehicle's power performance and the hybrid-driven mode has better power performance and trafficability than the other two.A new rhombic special-purpose vehicle transmission control system is developed in this article. According to the main function of the power transmission system, the control system is composed of hardware design section and software design section. The hardware section includes the selection of components and parts of the control system, circuit design of motor controller and PLC connection. The software section includes the programme of drive control strategy and status display of the control system using STEP7-Mcior/WIN. The article gives an experimental verification of the main function of the transmission control system. The experiment shows that the rhombic special-purpose vehicle transmission control system works very well.
