Firstly, this paper describes the research status of the anti-seismic analysis of LNG storage tank, and summarizes the commonly used methods for the analysis of seismic response of tanks, comparing their advantages and disadvantages. This paper makes seismic response analysis for a large LNG storage tank, referring to the domestic storage tank design regulations. Calculations for the seismic response of the tank has been made according to the formulation given by the regulations, making out the results of the tank's vibration cycle, the horizontal seismic force, seismic overturning moment, sloshing wave height and the dynamic stress produced by earthquakes. And seismic checking has been done in accordance with regulatory requirements, offering contrast and reference for the finite element analysis. Then the finite element software ANSYS has been used to make finite element analysis of the storage tank, making up a finite element model, making solid-liquid coupling analysis by ANSYS modules, obtaining both the empty and fully loaded vibration frequencies by modal analysis. Gravity loads has been imposed on the tank for static analysis. And the seismic loads have been imposed on the tank with two methods of equivalent inertial force analysis and transient dynamic analysis, making seismic response analysis in two conditions of OBE (basic operating earthquake level) and SSE (safe shutdown earthquake level), obtaining the stress distribution and the deformation of the tank, then analyzes the worst part of the seismic effects. Then tank seismic check has been made compared with the results of the regulations. Finally, summary and outlook has been made, raising design and construction methods which is favorable to the seismic capacity of LNG storage tank, and prediction of the development prospects of the LNG storage has been made.
