The Dynamic Mechanism Research Of Urban Growth Based On Political Economy Analysis

The rapid expansion of urban space has become a salient attribute of China, which consequent on the rapid economic growth after the reform and opening up. The dynamic mechanism of urban growth consist of comprehensive geographical factor and human factors, and it's basic logic structures becomes as follow: Geography and nature determines the basic momentum; Liberal economy development bring forth the spontaneous momentum; and several stakeholders of the city bring about subjective local momentum by gaming. This study is based on the latter two elements. By virtue of political economy analysis which is in the light of basic relationship between economical development and urban growth, I sponsor a discussion about the game between different stakeholders of the city, and then summarization the effect to urban space.At first, I began with the analysis of several stakeholders of the city by studying what they need,how can they achieve their aim and what will happen between them. It is concluded that the game between such stakeholders has pushed forward the process of urban growth.Then I made use of industrial economy and land economics to research the motive power of urban growth. After this research I got the idea that the process of urban growth is in connection with the overall economic development level; variety of land use structure which caused by economic development also has a close connection with urban growth.On that basis, I studied the specific urban growth momentum effect of social relations of production in China by several perspective respectively on globalization,national administration and local management. In terms of global level of analysis, it comes to a conclusion that globalization has affect urban growth by geographical division of labor,changing industrial structure,accelerating urban management and formation city growth coalition; in terms of national level of analysis, by looking back the history of national urban space management, we can reach a conclusion that this management play a role by development guideline,macroeconomic adjustment and regional development strategy; while in terms of local level of analysis, the local government's self-interest leads the urban growth. Most local governments have two key objectives: maintaining public policy and achieve their own aims, and both of them have done their share for urban growth.This paper take Hefei for an example to expound and prove the viewpoints above. The total features of Hefei urban growth can be divided into two steps: during the early stage after 1949, national management has played a important role in urban growth; on the contrary, in the last few years, globalization and local management has become more important.
