| Fujian Tubao (earth fortress in Fujian),which is mainly located in the mid of Fujian Province, is another kind of fortress-style dwellings apart from Tulou (Hakka earth building). Through field study and literature research, the author conducted a multidisciplinary research on it, including architecture, philosophy, history, linguistics, military science, sociology, culturology and so on.In this paper, the author first had an overview on Tubao to explain historical and geological conditions for the development of Tubao. Then, based on the main features of Tubao, the author specially used materialist dialectics to analyze the architectural style from its two main functions of residence and defense, which are the unity of opposites. Besides, from the views of relation and development, the author had a diachronic and comprehensive elaboration on the two functions of Tubao and the forming course and reasons of changes between them, and had a synchronic comparison on typical and similar architectures home and abroad to reveal the architectural characteristics and cultural connotation of Fujian Tubao. From the analyses above, the author finally made some proposals for the protection and utilization of Tubao. |
