The shape error of ball bearing race can affect the binding extent of race and steel ball, and then the bearing work performance is affected. So the shape error needs to be controlled strictly in race's manufacture process. Stone superfinishing is widely used in the precision finishing of the ball bearing ring. Generally it is the final processing in removing material process. Its main function is to improve the surface quality of the race. People realize the phenomenon that this process can destroy former process. The influence of the race often neglected, because superfinishing is trace processing. In order to control shape error better and take targeted control measures. Further research is necessary in the influence of the superfinishing for shape race in precision bearing processing.Based on the machining method for ball bearing race superfinishing and wear properties of the abrasive stone, mechanism of producing a shape error in the process are analyzed. The stone oscillation causes a interfering between the stone working surface and the race surface, and the surface interfering leads to nonuniform abrading on the race width, which changes the primary toroidal shape of the race and produes a shape error of the race. More serious the surface interfering is, greater the shape error is. Influences of the stone width and the race width on the interference are analyzed quantificationally by a example. Influences of some process parameters and factors on the shape error are discussed. Greater the width oscillation frequency, oscillation amplitude, hardness and abrasive ability of the stone are, and greater the race width is, Greater the race shape error produced in superfinishing process is.In the superfinishing process for ring race, the stone pressure in rings on the surface of the channel elastically. It can concession automatically, the removal ability of stone for rings materials is far from grinding wheel or tool. Therefore, the quantity of theoretical analysis is not the quantity of actual removing which forming the race error. The quantity of actual removing is not symmetrically on the ring surface. According to the basic rules of material removing, the distributing of material grinding amount is related to the distributing of ring and stone surface contact stress. Therefore contact stress distribution and change rule can reflect the change rule of race in a certain extent. Based on ANSYS software, establish three-dimensional finite element model of superfinishing stone and workpiece rings, solve contact stress distribution of the stone face and the ring surface, and then through the analysis of the influence of stone thickness and oscillation amplitude to contact stress distribution of the stone face and the ring surface, carry out the further research of these factors influence to race shape error. The results indicate that the greater race width and oscillation amplitude are, the greater the race shape error produced is.The research results herein can offer beneficial reference in principle and regularity of ball bearing race superfinishing for people. The research results can provide some guidance in shape error control in the machining process of precision bearing.
