As a nonstandard ball bearing, the wire race ball bearing possesses less mass, much less inertia, small size in axes direction, big size in radial direction, higher angular rigidity, it has frequently been used in shafting of big radius. The wire race is more likely to be destroyed in use, one of the main reasons is the elasti-plastic deformation between rolling ball and wire race during the contact process. And because of the existence of friction, self-rotating and sliding, the traditional Hertz theory has difficulty in calculating and analyzing the real contact situation. So it is extraordinary important to find a more exact and reasonable way to analyze the contact situation.A boundary element method based on an iterative technique for solving the Three-dimensional elastic contact problem is presented. The boundary integral equation for elasticity is derived through the general Green's formula and the corresponding fundamental solution. The paper represents the contact conditions, which are essential for the coupling of the boundary integral equations of the two different elastic contact bodies, in a local coordinate system properly chosen. In this paper, an iterative procedure, which seeks the increments of boundary values for displacements and tractions compatible with the contact conditions, is applied to determine the correct contact zone. Due to the existence of friction, the paper utilizes a method of simulating the increments of the external load to trace the history of loading taking account of the irreversible character of the history of loading. In numerical calculation, the paper employs the collocation method to compute the coupled boundary integral equations. This paper builds one-quarter wire race and one eighth rolling ball contact model, employs both quadrangle and triangle element and forms the contact pairs. In order to calculate the singular integral, paper presents the degenerate element method and analytical iteration.A general Matlab program for computing the 3-D frictional elastic contact problem by Boundary Element Method is compiled. The wire race-ball advancing contact problem is numerically calculated, the 3-D distribution of contact stress and deformation is plotted and the evolvement of contact area is given. Comparing with the results of Hertz theory, the validity and precision of the...
