Protection And Research Of Dongguan Main Street Historical District In Hanzhong City

In January 1994, the Chinese State Department approved that the Hanzhong City raised as third batch of domestic cultural heritage city, in April, Shanxi Province commissioned Urban Planning and Design Institute published the'Historical cultural city of Hanzhong protection plan'. Meanwhile, Hanzhong city in the last year promulgated the'Hanzhong City urban design and master Plan (2009 - 2020)', this document expounded four historic districts within the Historical city, and the designated Dongguanzheng Street Historic District is one of them.Dongguan Main Street is located in Hanzhong City where is outside the east gate of the city, in the Ming and Qing Dynasty period, has been formed a traditional commercial street. Nowadays it is an organic and integral part of the historical and cultural city of Hanzhong. In the area five residential houses have logged Hanzhong key residential courtyard list. Over several hundred years of evolution Dongguan Main Street has developed what we see today, the Street is still keeping the traditional street pattern and scale, the monument of traditional courtyard and national cultual relic protection unit is clear architectural form and distinct features is representative of traditional dwellings in Hanzhong City. However, the accelerated pace of urban modernization is attended by a phenomenon which is historic district have been gradually eroded. Hence, protection and development face serious challenges, preservation project must be resolved.Firstly, research conducted by historic Dongguan Main Street Historical District is in-depth and step-by-step, and access to an abundance of literature, which were used as the basis for practical and theoretical papers, in order to estimate the value of this district. Further researching on the street space form, the courtyard spatial form and inhabitants'living life-style, at meantime, bringing out a reasonable and objective assessment of the recent status, and the existing problems of Dongguan Main Street Historic District. This paper will utilize three preservation modular of protect and renewal the historic distinct from both domestic and other countries as a source of reference, to discover a reasonable way. Finally, under a situation with clear conservation objectives and principles, from the overall street pattern to the classification of traditional courtyard to the living life-style, the paper separately proposed measures to adapt to, and on this basis, discovering a conservation and update programs. The proposal will provide reference and fundamental information to the conservation of cultural heritage city.
