With infrastructure expanding, urban subway construction steps into an era of accelerating development. Urban subway construction is a high-risk project owing to the characteristics such as long construction period, complicated technique and unforeseeable risk factors. Due to objective and subjective reasons of the urban subway construction, such as incomplete and incorrect understanding, inappropriate management and little attention is paid to risks, accidents happened frequently during the subway construction and caused many casualties and greatly negative impact to society.This article, in view of this situation, does research on typical subway accidents and safety management status at home and abroad. On the basis of that a conclusion is received that little attention and lack of effective controlling measures to risks are the main reasons for subway construction accidents.Secondly, an idea is proposed that reliability theory can be applied in the field of subway construction based on the risk management technology and theory at home and abroad.Finally, a parallels and series model of risk control system was established based on reliability model. According to the required target of system reliability, combining with the reliability distribution theory, the reliabilities of each subsystems that constituted the parallels and series model can be determined. Aiming at the basic events constituted the subsystem, an average distribution method was taken to solve the basic events reliabilities. An example was given combined with No.2 Line of Xi′an subway. This studies showed that reliability theory can be successfully applied in the field of subway construction and can fulfill the optimization of construction safety under a given security target.
