The CAE (computer aided engineering) technology is applied in the automotive design more and more widely with its development and improvement. In this thesis, FEM (finite element method), multi-bodies dynamic analysis and fatigue life analysis were applied to the design of a lifting mechanism of a dump truck, provide evidence and guidance for the structural design of the dump truck lifting mechanism.First, a geometry model of the lifting mechanism was built with SolidWorks, and the finite element analysis models of the drawbar and lift arm were built by translating the geometry model into MSC.Patran software. The modal analysis of drawbar and lift arm were conducted in the MSC.Nastran for obtaining the modal value and vibration mode. The modal neutral file was exported for building the flexible bodies.Second, in order to obtain a more accurate performance of the lifting mechanism, a multi-bodies dynamic simulation model of the dump truck was built in MSC.ADAMS based on the vehicle parameters. Meanwhile, a rigid-flexible model of the dump truck was built by regarding the drawbar and lift arm as the flexible bodies. The applied force of each hinge point were obtained from dynamic analysis, which provides a more accurate load data for fatigue life analysis. Finally, the static analysis under unit load of the drawbar and lift arm were conducted in MSC.Nastran. Combining the load obtained from the dynamic analysis and fatigue analysis theory, the fatigue life analysis of the drawbar and lift arm were carried out in the MSC.Fatigue to obtain the fatigue life of the drawbar and lift arm.The results of this study provide evidence and guidance for the structural design of the dump truck lifting mechanism, which has important practical value for reducing the damage of lifting mechanism components, improving the service life of dump truck and lightweight design.
