Investigation And Research On Community Service Design Of Blind

Since20th60s and70s, design concepts for the disadvantaged group had been promoted and turned from design for the disabilities to barrier free design, stable design and universal design, which show design field’s respect to the disadvantaged group and understand of the public design. Taking the blind for example, there are more and more products designed for the blind which surmount visually handicapped and make the blind enjoy normal experience. At the same time, the problems of the blind are multiple and comprehensive and single research and design cannot make the blind’s life improved remarkably. It needs the researcher analyze their main living area in a real environment and gather their main troubles and put forward with refined and practical solutions, improving their lives entirely.The paper takes Nanjing School for the Blind and blind children as the research object(from Nov.2012to now), making an inspection of the service design in the community and studying on real troubles like getting around and shopping independently, doing easy housework and managing pocket money. After survey and interview to the students and their teachers and parents, I explored the qualifications and deficiency in their seeking for independent study and lives. The papers put forward with community service design and try refining services, constructing an ideal community for the blind children, which will be the raw data for the related design.
