The purpose of universal design is trying to meet the demands of usage for more groups of people. The7principles of universal design as a design guide are widely used in product design. Although the principle of universal design can describe the degree of universal through the qualitative methods, it cannot provide quantitative description which is based on the scientific theory for the design of products. Therefore, the universal design of the product interface is conducted as the object of the study. Presenting the method of Monte Carlo and the theory of Human Reliability Analysis both on the sides of solid user interface and software interface is in order to investigate the physical sizes and cognition in quantitative study. Putting forward the universal index R and the universal degree of cognitive of interface index UDCI can offer a new approach of thought to the quantitative study of universal design.During the process of quantitative research of universal design for the solid user interface, the first step is creating the objective function according to the human-machine relationship. Then make the assessment of the universal design principle into quantitative dimension. Analyzing the degree which the design variables affect the objective function and dividing the design variables into controllable variables (designed scheme) and non-controllable variables. Due to the theory of Ergonomics discipline calculates the distribution of non-controllable variables. Finally, taking the controllable variables (designing scheme) into the objective function and counting the universal index R by using the Monte Carlo method. It means the suitable probability of the designing scheme in order to demonstrate the suitable scope of consumers about the different designing schemes. During the software interface quantitative research of universal design, according to match level between on the information of software interface and human cognitive, constructed UD-CREAM quantification method and the retrospective method which based on the universal design of cognitive reliability and error analysis method. Construct UD-CPC factor scale according on UD principles and Common Performance Condition CPC, presenting the concept of universal degree by the UDCI index which can reflect the recognition of the interface. The cognitive failure probability CFP is regarded as the theory foundation of the universal design. Combining the commonly fault formats of operating mutual products which is initiated by Norman and the fault model which is presented by Jam Reason who works creating the list of fault format in the method of UD-CREAM retrospective method,can retrospect root cause mistakes.Finally, citing the instance of airport self-service baggage drop and analyzing the universality between the solid user interface and the software interface. During the process of solid interface research, the objective function which composes the users and the sizes of screen interface is built on the foundation of experience. Bound to the screen interface angle by human normal, the designed scheme of screen height were solved by the method of Monte Carlo theory with a combination of design0.9m to1.2m which index R was99%and can meet the wheelchair using people, young people and comfortable healthy adults requirements. The scheme can be proved by the human-computer analysis module in the CATIA software.In the process of software interface research, the simulating experiment stage is founded and the operating interface of software interface is written. According to the simulating experiment stage of airport self-service baggage drop, the experiment of the different groups of people has been accomplished. Using the UD-CREAM can analyze the originally complete interface index called as UDCI. Retrospect the missing reasons from different groups of people and combining the experiment of cognition modules and through the HCR model experiment results show that the modified interface can reduce people’s cognitive time and also UDCI index increased from30%to37%.The universal level of interface have been improved.
