With the development of urbanization, city traffic congestion intensified. Automatic Fare Collection (AFC) system came into being, playing an important role in Urban Mass Transit. The use of AFC system greatly reduced the workload of staff, while realized the rapid triage and statistical information and other tasks. The Ticket Vending Machine (TVM) is the key equipment in the AFC system, able to guide passengers to self-purchase one-way subway ticket. Because Ticket Vending Machine directly to the passengers, the system interface, ease of operation and operating performance will directly affect the effect of the whole AFC system. At first TVM entirely provided by foreign enterprises, in order to promote the localization process, it is necessary to study the TVM system. This paper firstly briefly introduced the current situation and development trend of AFC system, then analyzed the overall logic and functional requirements to explain the objectives and the development of methods of system design. Next based on the specific needs of Nanjing Metro Line 3,10 TVM systems to do business division, module development and process design work on cash handling subsystem in TVM system. First realized the coin handling and banknote accept module, on this basis, to realization the main module of each layer by layer, and through collaboration with one-way ticket subsystem to achieve the overall function of the whole TVM system. After module testing and integration testing, determined the system software to meet the requirements of on-line operation. In the process of the subsystem development, through the Windows message mechanism, thread synchronization mechanism, thread pool improved the system. Finally, proposed the problems of the design and development process and the direction of improvement in the subsystem.
