With the rapid development of the national economy and enhanced living level, the railway passenger transport system and city rail transportation system have to face to the increased requirement in the aspect of transport ability and service quality. The Automatic Fare Collection system (AFC) replaces the manual mode of vending and checking ticket, it realizes the automation of vending , checking, statistic and so on. As a result , it enhanced the management level, makes convention for passengers, and improves the transportation efficiency and profits. In large cities, AFC has been successfully used in many light railway and metro system, on the other hand, in national railway system , checking and vending ticket are also implement with manual even if the Railway Ticketing and Reservation System had been established for many years. So it is very important and necessitous to research and develop the AFC which is fit with the national railway passenger transportation system.This article is based on the experiences of research and work in AFC field, researches on key technologies such as selecting the ticket medium, the device monitor system, embedded realtime operation system, security of network and system. It stresses on station server system and automatic gate device. Compared with the experiences and technology of AFC of city rail transport system, aimed at the characteristic of national railway passenger transport system, made use of the current available resource, the AFC which is fit with the national railway passenger transportation system is pointed out.In city rail transport system, the AFC structure has four levels. In national railway, because of the existing of Railway Ticketing and Reservation System, the AFC structure has two levels: the station server system and station terminal devices.The ticket is a carrier of the information, it is the foundation of the AFC system also. The security, reliability and maintenance of the AFC are effecteddeeply by the medium of the ticket. This paper researches on all kinds of the medium which can be used as ticket, compares the advantages and disadvantages among them. Combining with the existing questions of the information security, the adapts to national railway features ticket medium was chosen: the paper magnetic stripe card used as one-off ticket and the contactless IC card used as storage ticket.The paper compares the station server system in city rail transportation system and in national railway system, points out the structure of station server system in national railway system, realizes the software of the system.The paper brings forward the structure of Automatic Gate and realizes the software of it. This paper gives the key technology problem used in the process of realization, and gives the settling way.
