With the continuous consumption of the traditional energy (oil, coal and so on), the use of renewable energy get more and more attention. Renewable energy sources including wind, solar, biomass, and geothermal energy. Due to the superiority of China’s wind energy resources, wind energy plays an important role in the development and utilization of new energy. Wind turbine is the main tool of using wind energy, which can convert the wind energy into mechanical energy, and mechanical energy into electrical energy, heat energy. Therefore research and development of design of wind turbine is one of the most important part of wind energy utilization.Considering the advantages and disadvantages of different types of wind turbine, this paper mainly studies the resistance type vertical axis wind turbine, using numerical simulation method. With the design principle of the wind turbine and the fluid mechanics theory, it find a method for simulating the wind turbine which use the SST k-co turbulence model, sliding mesh technique, the PISO algorithm and the QUICK format. The mainly work as follow:1 This paper has carried on the computation to the different grid density and calculated the area of different size to find out the appropriate calculation model, as to lay the foundation for the follow-up research work.2 With the three blades, five blades and the six blades resistance type vertical axis wind turbine, the wind turbine power and wind energy utilization coefficient were calculated under different width of the blade and different speeds to find the best value.3 To the five blade wind turbine, the work analyses the blade installation angle influence on the performances of wind turbine under different width of the blade, and find the optimal values of the blade installation angle.4 Form the velocity contours, pressure contour and the turbulent kinetic energy contour, the aerodynamic performance of wind turbine got analysis.The results showed, when the blade installation angle is zero, the best of the wind utilization rate increased with the increase of the number of the blades; changing the blade installation angle, it can effectively enhance the utilization rate of wind energy;For wind turbine’s radius is 2m, blade width optimization of three blades, five blade, six blades wind turbine are 1.32m,0.80m and 0.70m.In the edge of the concave blades of three blades and six blades wind turbine generate the maximum pressure difference.
