Overhead traveling crane is the essential type of hoisting machinery for all the aspects in economic development. And the large tonnage cranes are emerging in endlessly. Hoisting machinery belongs to special equipment. Therefore, it’s absolutely necessary for safety inspection regularly. There are many difficulties in being well-understood about the static and dynamic characteristics in the regular inspection for the cranes in service. Such as complicated inspection procedures, long time taking, low efficiency and so on.To solve problems above properly, this paper puts forward a way to overhead travelling cranes’ inspection, called “rapid inspection method of static and dynamic characteristics of overhead travelling crane”. By means of studying on the relationship among load deformation, stress and dynamic stiffness, used some data from on-site measurement, this method can achieve the goal to rapid inspection. Software called “rapid inspection supplementary system for overhead travelling cranes’ static and dynamic characteristics” is also made in this paper for personnel to use on site.The main contents in this paper are as follows.1. According to the relationship between the girder’s load deformation and stress, a calculation related to static strength based on rapid inspection method is put forward; the inspection method based on elastic theory is used to study on the static stiffness; analyzing the vibration system mechanics model of overhead travelling cranes, a method to deduce the dynamic stiffness has been studied. Meanwhile, build relationship between static stiffness and dynamic stiffness, reaching the goal to deduce dynamic stiffness by load deformation. This is the theory of rapid inspection method.2. Considering that the girder deadweight is needed in the process of calculating static stress, two girder deadweight of overhead travelling cranes acquisition methods are studied in this paper: sample statistical analysis method and particle swarm optimization algorithm. Moreover, the girder deadweight data and the fitting curve are provided for inspection personnel to use on site.3. Engineering exemplification and finite element analysis technique have been used to verify the rapid inspection method of overhead travelling cranes, which make the rapid inspection method’s feasibility clearer. At the same time, comparison has been made to quantitative analyze the mainly factors influencing the calculation results.4. Software called “rapid inspection supplementary system for overhead travelling cranes’ static and dynamic characteristics” is made in the paper, which is provided for the inspection personnel using on site, improving the inspection efficiency and reducing the working intensity.In a word, this paper is aimed at providing a feasible solution for overhead travelling cranes’ inspection, especially for the large-tonnage ones.
