Spline cold rolling is a kind of cold precision bulk forming process to produce the spline. In this process, two high speed rotating wheel are installed on both sides of the workpiece,which knock on the surface of the workpiece in order to make the metal material deformed.The part of deformation of the metal flows along the profile of involute spline of rotating wheel,then the spline is formed. In addition to the previous spline processing technology, the forming process has a lot of advantanges of high quality, high production efficiency,and high stock utilization, which opens up a new path for spline production. Cold rolling technology has been developed for many years, but the domestic research on this kind of technology is still insufficient, especially on spline forming quality research In this context,this article took the characteristics of spline cold rolling forming process as the breakthrough point, making a study on cold rolling forming quality.Through the analysis of cold rolling,this paper expounded that the high-speed plastic forming technology had characteristics of high speed impact and instantaneous dynamic response,and analyzes the deformation in the high strain rate case which will be different from that of quasi static material behavior and its effect on the metal deformation law and forming quality.In ABAQUS/Explicit module,the cold rolling process with interrupted division was simulated, and the reason of the stress and strain distribution rule was explained.A study was made on the spline forming quality in different parts by the way of measuring the axial displacement in the radial direction. In order to further verify the forming quality of spline produced by cold rolling,the distribution of surface roughness and hardness were given through the experimental study.Explaining the causes of this phenomenon by the simulation analysis and the microstructure observation,this paper got the rule of the metal flow.Cold rolling process refers to intermittent rotation and continuous rotation of wheel,thus it has two different ways of dividing to play when the wheel contact with the workpiece.The state of motion of workpiece defines different ways of dividing.The workpiece keeps rotating at interrupted division,So interference phenomenon occurs between workpiece and wheel.Expounding the formation causes of the interference phenomenon.This paper gave a method to calculate the wheel installation angle.A thorough discussion was carried on the effect on the quality of spline of different installation angle.It was concluded that the way and law of angle’s influence.
