In recent years, there are lots of phenomena about vehicle-jumping at bridgehead that appear during the operating process of highway traffic, which not only bring big trouble for vehicle operation but also damage abutment seriously. At present, most abutments are gravity U-type, therefore, it’s necessary to study the influence of the dynamic load which is produced when abutment is under the circumstance of vehicle-jumping and the filling soil pressure behind abutment on itself.To begin with, this paper introduces a series of common diseases phenomena on present U-type abutment, the structure form and component of the gravity U-type abutment. Through summarizing the current research achievements of mechanical on abutments, it points out the influence of dynamic load which is produced when abutment is under the circumstance of vehicle-jumping on abutments is not taken into consideration. Based on deeply analyzes the essence of vehicle-jumping, it illustrated vehicle-jumping issue from hazards, reasons and precaution measures. The most important is that focuses on the filling behind abutments and foundation treatment, the settings of transition section and the general design of bridges. Then, it narrates the theory of how to compute the soil pressure behind abutments and the dynamic load of pavement. By comparing and analyzing a variety of current computing methods, the author learn that Coulomb’s earth pressure theory is more suitable for the calculation of soil pressure and the research achievements of the model which takes the path of wheels into consideration is more consistent with the actual situation about dynamic load which is produced under the circumstance of vehicle-jumping.meanwhile it presents the trait of geotechnical engineering, the finite unit theory, the application of MIDAS/GTS, the general situation of the engineering and the selection of parameters,especially the detailed illustration of the means of loading on dynamic load.afterwards, it models the U-type abutment by MIDAS/GTS and analyses the computed achievements of different kinds working conditions, without pavement load,there is not vehicle-jumping, 10 mm jumping, 20 mm jumping, 30 mm jumping and so on included, at the same time,by means of comparing and analyzing the first principal stress and transverse and longitudinal displacement of the abutment which is under different kinds of working condition, it obtains the research results. in addition, it makes a comparison between the measured data and the computed results of the model, which verifies the rationality of the modeling and calculation of MIDAS/GTS.
