Whether during the construction period or the operation period, external interference will have sustained impact on ecological environment along the project. Besides, because there are different causes of construction projects’impact on the ecological environment at different times, specific distinction should be made according to the characteristics of impacts on the ecological environment during the construction period and operation period. While evaluating the impact of highway projects on their surrounding ecological environment, we should keep the following points in mind:identify relevant situations of areas along highways and within the influence of them. For example:distribution of flora and fauna along the highway, especially national key protected flora and fauna within the influenced areas, regional ecological functions and characteristics, etc. analyze the integrity of ecosystem within the sphere of influence; propose targeted scientific advice to the protection and restoration of ecological environment.Highway construction will inevitably affect the survival of wild animals and habitats, one of the main performance is covers an area of damage to the vegetation along the construction, thus resulting in a decrease of wildlife habitat and breeding places of large area;Part of the construction activities will produce a lot of environmental noise and the construction of waste water, waste residue, waste gas and other pollutants, will be serious interference habitat along the animal’s survival;Operating period of road traffic generated by unfavorable factors such as traffic noise and vehicle traffic light night, will have a different degree of animal breeding habitat, the influence of, at the same time, still can make along the wild animal population between the blocking effect. In this paper, the author studies the impact of expressway project on its surrounding ecological environment, takes the construction project of Neijiang -Weiyuan-Rongxian expressway as an example and utilizes various existing materials and field investigation materials to evaluate the project region from ecological environment of flora and fauna in this region, distribution characteristics of population, structural features, evolution trends, heterogeneous condition of biomes and biomass, etc.and proposes feasible protective measures and countermeasures to protect the ecological environment within the sphere of influence. The results show that within the affected region of Neijiang-Rongxian expressway project, natural vegetation biomass decreases by about 7578.33t, and productivity decreases by about 3860.46t/a, accounting for 15.59% and 11.83% of the total biomass and productivity within the scope of evaluation respectively. Loss of vegetation biomass accounts for 38.16% of the project’s total loss, and construction of the project has huge impact on vegetation within the scope of evaluation.
