Application Of Patterns In Modern Space Design

As a classical decoration pattern, fret has a very long history in Chinese culture. After the long term development and evolution, it becomes very popular in our daily life. However, it’s still worthy thoroughly research and study on how to make good use of it.Fret was originally used as decoration only on bronze ware and pottery and then extended its presence to every aspect of people’s life. The change of usage pattern of fret reflects the different aethestic standard and development level of economic, politics and culture among different dynasties, all of which is necessary for us to explore.This thesis focus on the research on fret. It does a thoroughly research and analysis on the origin, development, appearance pattern and application of fret. It analyses the evaluation history of fret from the background of social and culture development; it elaborates in details on the traditional aesthetic value of fret from different aspects, e.g. artistic features, aesthetic significance and artistic conception expression in the space, last but not least, it explores the application of fret in 2D plane and 3D space.According to the characteristics of the pattern itself, give full consideration to the use of contemporary space attribute, coordinating the relationship between the two, the reasonable use, make the lines in the application of space, get the inheritance and development.The research on application of fret in the space should first focus on the value of traditional Chinese culture and aesthetic orientation behind fret, and then explore the different use pattern in different space interface by combining the modern space analysis, and lastly apply modern design to the traditional fret pattern so that we can take full advantage of its aesthetic value in modern space design.
