Aimed at the penetration effects of preformed fragment warheads to circular tube targets in this paper, the operating processes, influencing factors and regularities of penetrating pipes for cylindrical preformed fragments were studied, and the penetration efficiencies of standard cylindrical preformed fragment warhead models to circular tubes were analyzed.Firstly, the deformation modes of circular tubes and performed fragments and the fragments’ballistic characteristics in the process of penetration were studied. The calculation formula of limiting penetration velocity was established considering the angle of entry, and the calculation methods of deflection angles for fragments were proposed. Based on the finite elements software LS-DYNA, the deformation modes of circular tubes and fragments and the fragments’ballistic deflection regularities in the process of penetration were researched, and the calculation formula of limiting penetration velocity was revised.Secondly, through the dimension analysis, the parameters which have influences on limiting penetration velocity were acquired, and the essences and influencing factors of ricochet were analyzed. And the influence regularities of various factors to the limiting penetration velocity and critical angle of ricochet were researched. The influence regularities of length-to-diameter ratio, relative thickness to circular tubes and angle of entry for fragments to the limiting penetration velocity were acquired, obvious effects on limiting velocity when length-to-diameter ratio less than 3.26, relative thickness equal 1 and angle of entry greater than 30°. find the critical ricochet angle in different direction angle and initial velocity:The experiments of penetrating circular tubes were carried out. and the influences of the initial velocity and angle of entry to the tubes’damage were studied. These results were compared with the theoretical computation results and the relevant simulation regularities.Finally, the damage efficiencies of preformed fragment warhead to circular tubes were researched. And the distribution regularities of initial velocity and scattering angle were obtained through the calculations of preformed fragment warhead’s power field. The missile-target encounter models were established considering the transport velocity of warheads, and the damage conditions of warheads to circular tubes under different missile-target’s situations were analyzed using specific program.
