The circuit breaker is an equipment which plays a critical role in the protection and control of equipment in the power system. The vacuum circuit breaker is used widely in the field of medium voltage since it has a better excellent performance than others. Although there are a lot of investigation about the properties of vacuum circuit breakers, they are not comprehensive enough especially on the properties analyses of the circuit breaker under the condition of opening and closing short circuit current.In order to study on the breaking and closing performance of circuit breaker in short circuit current, ZN63A-12 typed vacuum circuit breaker, which one of the most widely used vacuum circuit breaker at present in the medium voltage field, is selected as experiment objects after a comprehensive investigation. In the dissertation, the work principle and some important properties parameters about ZN63A-12 have been investigated,the influence factors have been analyzed and the performance of the circuit breaker is optimized. A model of arc extinguish chamber has been established from Ansoft Maxwell and the electrodynamic force on the moving contact is derived at this point. In addition, the 3D model established in CREO is imported into ADAMS for multi-body dynamics simulation. Then, the electrodynamic force gained is also imported into ADAMS for analyzing the properties under this condition and comparing with the properties under the condition of no load. Next, the finite element analysis is used to analyze the strength of the key components of vacuum circuit breaker in ANSYS WORKBENCH. Finally, the correctness of the simulation results is verified by the experiments. To sum up, this dissertation have been investigated the properties of vacuum circuit breaker under the condition of the opening and closing short-circuit current and compared that with no-load. It has been proved that the simulation analysis is correct and reliable by the experiments.
