On the numerical simulations of high CFRD dynamic response, the effects of mesh dimension on the dynamic behavior of facing were not taken into account, and the adaptability of different element types and structures for the mesh dimension were ignored.For the above reasons, a new mesh system with different density based on dam heights and characteristics of seismogram was introduced to simulate the dynamic response of CFRD. it can be concluded from numerical trail for the facing plate that mesh dimension have a great effect on facing stress and dynamic behaviors, no effect on filled rock dynamic behaviors.For facing plate have the possibility sliding or breaking along with the interface between facing and filled rock during earthquake process, an improved algorithm based on shear deformation is given- to reflect the characteristics of shear failure of joint elements. The numerical results of facing stress distribution have a great agreements with the actual phenomena of CFRD earthquake failure.
