In this dissertation, the author introduces the home and abroad researches of the automatic electric meters reading system, illustrates the structure, function and specialty of automatic electric meters reading system based on Hybrid Fiber Coax (HFC) network, and gives a scheme of HFC network electric meters reading system. The collector is in the middle location of the HFC network electric meters reading system, it can finish a series of tasks: receiving, analyzing and decomposing the instructions sent by master computer, exchanging data between meters and itself, composing the data into frames to upload them to the master computer via Internet. The collector plays an important role in the data transmission process between the master computer and the intelligent electric meters. The dissertation places the emphasis on the design and development of the collector software. It discusses deeply the network programming technology, serial communication programming technology and multi-thread programming technology. The demand analysis of software is made and the demands of its function, data structure, running and perfonnance are given, including the software logic modal in data flow diagram. On this base, the author have designed and developed the software of the collector. The function modules are divided, With the development technology of object oriented programming , the Visual C++ development tools and multi-thread programming, the author has realized the function of the collector. The definition of important classes and design flow diagrams of every thread .are also given in the dissertation. In the process of developing the software, the collector are made to work with the intelligent electric meters and the master computer to test the software. The introduction of the software debug process is given in the end of the thesis. In the dissertation, the author describes the principle of intelligent electric meter , a design instance of the meter抯 print circuit board which can be used in realistic experiment, the data transmission protocol between the collector and the master computer, and so on. At the last, the author summarizes the work of the thesis and discusses the direction of the future development.
