As china is one of the most populous countries in the world,the water resource per capita is much fewer than the others'.In order to manage the use of water,the government has perused the policy of "one house,one meter".In such cases,there has been a sharp increase in the number of water meters.The traditional water meters reading system is not able to meet the current demand.In this paper,a smart water meters reading system based on 433 MHz RF and GPRS has been presented.433 MHz RF has been applied in local network because of its advantages such as low cost,high penetration,et al.GPRS has been applied for remote data transmission in wide area network.Consequently,a real sense of wireless water meters reading system has been implemented.The system consists of three main parts:regional concentrator,routers and data acquisition modules.The tree network topology has been applied.The regional concentration is the core of the system,which is integrated with 433 MHz and GPRS communication modules.On the one hand,the concentrator communicates the ammeter reading center by GPRS.On the other hand,it communicates the whole local area network by 433 MHz.Besides,the concentrator is also responsible for the formation and maintenance of the LAN.From the viewpoint of cost and ease of design,the clarinet meters are applied.The data acquisition modules can connect the water meters directly to collect data and control the use.The data acquisition modules have been integrated with the 433 MHz RF module to connect the concentrator or the routers.The design of hardware has completed based on Si4432 and MSP430F249.Special protocols are given to strengthen the reliability of the data transmission.Besides,the design of software for each modules are also given.Lots of measurements have been done for the smart water meters reading systems such as GPRS connection,433 MHz RF network formation,data collection and communication quality test.The results show that the system can accomplish the acquisition and transmission accurately,quickly and efficiently.Thus,the system has good application prospect.
