A new low-cost TSC reactive power compensation instrument is introduced in this paper that can compensate reactive power in low-voltage(O.4KV) distribution network. This instrument detects the voltage of the SCR switch and triggers in the zero-voltage condition, so that it implements hardware protection and prevents rush current from destroying device owing to faulty trigger. Also , the theory of fuzzy control is used in shunt capacitor bank switching control, thus solves the repeated switching problem caused by the contradiction between improving power factor and voltage quality.
