Voltage is a significant index for power quality, ensuring the voltage quality of consumer approach the normal value become a basic task of power system operation and control. Reactive power and voltage are closely related to the maintenance of the system voltage level to reduce power loss, it must be reasonable and reactive power compensation. So it has great meaning to use various voltage adjustment measure and reactive power compensation equipment to implement voltage/var compositive controlling to improve electric energy quality and reduce the power loss.Power substations are the taches of power nets and users, which act as a key part to stabilize voltage and reduce power loss. Now most substations are equipped with on-load tap-changer transformers and power capacitors. As the degree of substation automation increases, voltage and inactive power control technique (VQC) has been a necessary part of it.In this study, some overall researches on VQC technique and summarizes and improve methods on the applications of VQC in hedong substation of Nanchong region were made. The main research work and achievements are as follows:(1) A comprehensive exposition is given at home and abroad substation voltage and reactive power control strategy on condition of the basic tenets of VQC, control strategies, and the VQC 9 zones, 17 zones and different control strategies for the analysis and comparison shows that 17 of a 9 zones advantages.(2) VQC achieve expounded the basic principles of comparative analysis of the independent hardware-based substation automation system and the use of the RTU devices VQC different ways to achieve the advantages and disadvantages, and apply to the independent group substation VQC-screen hardware is described in detail.(3) Details of VQC software design, making some improvements, as well as the law and requirements of control system for VQC, principles of software design, control strategy, and the main elements of the system, given the VQC setting value set of procedures and software processes.(4) An objective analysis of Nanchong, the voltage level of the situation, and the necessity and feasibility to apply VQC in Hedong substation are given. The study is focused on the selection of VQC in Hedong substation, setting VQC and technology application and the results achieved and also summarized achievement of using VQC in Hedong. In this part, analysis were made on some outstanding problems such as auto identifying the system pattern, limitation of operate times etc, and solving methods were given too and the actual operation at the scene proved the correctness of this work.Finally, it is the summing-up and prospect of the development of the voltage and reactive power integrated control technology in substation.
