| The East Lake in Wuhan is surrounded by beautiful mountains, large lakes, and abundant greeneries. It is also rich in Chu culture. The lake has been selected as one of the Demonstrations of National Weil-Known Scenic Spots and it retains as the largest scenery in the city of Wuhan. Through the on-site investigation,it was observed that the human factor had been ignored in the original roadway planning and scenic design. It resulted in a lack of close interaction between human activity and natural environment. The lakeshore,as an open space, does not have a distinctive human characteristic and cultural contents. There is not an organized walk system along the natural shoreline. Subsequently vehicular traffic easily conflicts with tourist flow on the mixed-use roadways. The lacks of serviceability and recreational facilities are evident and have made the entire scenic area less attractive.Nowadays, the urban modernization and public artistic appreciation have dramatically improved in China. The public demands for high quality social life through communication and recreational activity. The early concept of public open space no longer accommodates the openness and diversities pursued by the modern public. It is quite trendy to built up an open and multiple use space. Usually lakeshore area plays an important role in a city, which is characterized by the lose-water" element and is associated with a lot of public events. This design is aimed at integrating the most advantageous element lose-water" with the lakeshore topographic and landform features through the process of "humanizing" the lakeshore area. The intention is to improve the scenic values along the shoreline and to incorporate the scenery with the entire city scenicdesign. This will result in harmoniously blending of natural environment and human activity. During the second phase of the East Lake Lakeshore Scenery Construction Project,an approach was taken to establish a public domain including a Cha-Gang lose-water" observation platform, bathing beach and parking lots. The design and analysis of all these elementshave been addressed in the following article as well as other components such as roadway alignment, installation, water bank stabilization, planting, street lighting, sculptures and accessible paths for disables. The proposed landscape will ensure a systematic visual system with enhanced cultural, artistic, and unique characteristics, and properly arranged facilities along the shoreline. With these modifications, the lakeshore route will be equipped with various scenic beauties, greeneries, tranquility, and elegance. By separating vehicular movements from tourist flows and creating the lose-water" platform walk system,it will make the environment more comfortable and relaxing for tourists. The walk system will provide tourist-oriented walks with safe, convenient, intimate, and comfortable space. It conforms to human's walk nature. During the design of the bathing beach,a concept was developed which set the beach sands as a primary theme, projecting sunlight, beach alignment, and water surface. The proposed beach will have a more appealing environment for tourists to have great scenic views. The objective of this article is that the landscaping should be guided to emphasize on human factors,to response to human concerns, and environmental impacts. The entire design was carried out by following this objective.During the preliminary site planning, the software of AutoCAD was used to assist the design. A number of plots and three-dimension drawings were obtained. |
