The cam-follower is the main mechanism of the engine that carries out a series of accurate motions. Its mild wear may gradually worsen the contact conditions. The probability for surface fatigue will then increase due to changes in the surface topography. This may have damaging effects on components. For improving the performance and prolonging the life of the engine, it is important to process the tribological design.First the research status of Jhe tribological design is studied, and the problems and shortages are point out. The purpose of this work is hereby determined.A numeric model based on the Archard's wear equation is build up at first. Then the geometrical model is established and the parameterized design method is presented. Afterward the calculation and analysis of the 3-D contact pressure distribution is carried out by using finite element method. The flows and arithmetic of the simulation is analyzed and realized in MATLAB. Finally an integral software module for cam mechanism contact pressure analysis is developed in ANSYS.This work has formed an integrated technical route from geometrical design to tribological design. It may contribute to the theories of wear design and arithmetic, and can be used for reference to the cam-follower tribological design.
