With the emergence of electric power market, higher request on power plant's safety and economical efficiency will be presented. Variable-frequency drive technology is of many advantages in field control and energy saving, therefore it becomes the preferable option in the rotating machine drive in thermo power plant. After the introduction of the principles of variable-frequency drive technology, the thesis analyzed mechanical characteristics. A study on the pulverized coal feeding control system in power plant is done and a variable-frequency drive system is designed. To solve existing problems in the field, computer simulation analyses are completed on the system's safety, starting function, toque characteristic, dynamic characteristic as well as economical efficiency consideration. Comparison between variable-frequency drive system and electromagnetism coupling control system has been made to illustrate that the variable-frequency drive technology is practical for pulverized coal feeding in Lingquan power plant and has significant energy saving profits. The proposed design and the analysis theory can also be applied for pulverized coal feeding system in other thermo power plant.
