Ecological residence, as a project, has been studied for several years in advanced countries, and become a serial of theories and practice. In May 2001, the china construction department promulgated <>, in which ruling regulation and principles are detailed. The paper introduces the concept of ecology-type residence and ecological design, which collaborates the ideas of landscape ecology, ecological ideal and sustainable principles. Some common mistakes being made of the landscape architecture design of today1 s national residences are analysed , and proposes seven ecological design modes, including Total programming design mode; Circling mode; Parking mode; Recycled- water mode; Sound environmental mode; Ecological planting mode and Green construction materials mode. In this modes, the author analyses the resident mental and physical requirement from aspects of orientation, distance between house, privacy, and proposes many practical and constructive suggestions with regard to such issues as pedestrian traffic, total planning framework, open space, private space, half private space, recycled-water and so on, from aspects of human, nature and the harmony of human and nature. Ecological planting mode emphasizes design with ecology. The Green construction materials mode promotes to use new materials and recycling and to reduce environment pollution. Finally, It is pointed out in the thesis that It is time to develop sustainable residence, and give several national cases on ecology-type residence. Based on the abroad and home case studies, the author discusses an evaluative system with regard to ecology-type residence, which include evaluation contents, the characteristics of evaluation and evaluation procedure, from aspects of dimensional factors, landscape factors, functional factors and public participation.
