The Urban district communication space is based on the manual environment. It's composed with integrative complications such as social, cultural, mental and so on. It can satisfied residents the needs, and make a healthy communication environment. The communication space is timely and locality. It can promote social and people development. In China, the communication space has been very important in traditional residences. After the World War II, the residences' form and scale have brought about a great change because of west architecture ideas. The most visible expression is that the neighborhood relations had gone out gradually, the unit between family and social-neighborhood unit is changed fundamentally. It is so pity that the advantages is little used in modern residence design. We ought to develop the traditional advantages because we have the architecture sense of duty. This paper proved the way to use the traditional culture in the new residence during de-structuring and reforming. And I produce some new possible modes after I survey it pertinently and summery it systematically. I wish my research could be used in the future. And my research represented the care for the user during the thought of transposition.This paper discussed the communication space mainly. And I analyses the possibility to use the traditional special elements in the modern residence design. Firstly, I analyses the relationship between communication and architecture space, conform the importance and characteristics of communication space. Secondly, I analyses the problems about the communication in modern urban residence, expound the influences and causes of the lack of neighborhood living space. Thirdly, I analyses the relative merits about traditional courtyard space, and determine the possibility to improve. Fourthly, I expand the concrete means to use the experience of traditional neighborhood unit for reference—three-dimensional courtyard. At last, I provide some examples to explain and crystallize.
