The Mathematical Model Of Ship's Stability In Waves And Its Application In Ro-Ro Ships

The stability of ship in waves is the important part of sea transport security,over the last decade,it is the focus of the discussion when IMO and most flag states investigated all means to enhance the safety of ships. In the seventh "STAB 2000",lots of captains lodged:" at present,about 80%-90% ship's stability accident caused by artificial diathesis" .Ro-Ro ship is a kind of burgeoning vessel;its stability in waves is standing out. Especially last stage in 20th century,a few serious accidents of Ro-Ro ship aroused people's abroad attention. With the recent rapid development of Ro-Ro shipping in China,it is urgent for Chinese authority to develop the special technology standard and legal criterion.The thesis,which is divided into six parts,reviews the history of the Ro-Ro ship and the regulation of IMO concerning the security of Ro-Ro ship. The urgency and reason for China to investigate the stability of ship in waves is provided and discussed. After analyzing and comparing the research results of our nation and western of the same problem,in chapter 3,mathematical model for the estimation of stability is developed and calculated. The construction of the models is based on such theories as Theoretical Mechanic,Advanced Mathematics,Space Analytic Geometry,the Theory of Ship and Sea-keeping Theory. The result is calculated and simulated by program.In the last part of the thesis,the discussion for capsizing of "Da Shun" in Bohai on Nov.24,1999,is demonstrated using the results of accounting .At the end of the thesis,the suggestion of improving stability criterion and security is provided for the authority's consideration.
