A ship's power station is a plant which generators and continuously supplies electric power to various auxiliary machinery on board and meets the electric power demands of the whole ship. Normally,a ship's power station consists of a prime mover,generators and their ancillary equipment (to form generators sets) and distribution boards,being an essential part of the power system on board a ship.Reliability defines the capability of a product to perform specified functions under definite conditions and within limited time period. The reliability of a ship's power station means the capability of a generator unit to generator electric power and supply the power to the power consumers on board in a proper manner.A ship's power station is one of the important equipment on board of modern ships,as the performance of the station will influences directly the operation conditions of a ship. Therefore,it is necessary for us to conduct a series of principle analysis on different sections of the station such as the fuel system,lube system and cooling system of the diesel engine for generators,and the shaft generator as well as the main switchboard etc. It is also important to carry out at meantime a number of reliability tests and analyze the test results so as to assure all the units of the station will run smoothly.The maintenance of machinery is a kind of technical management measure with the purpose to maintain or restore the designed functions of the machinery. After a ship's power station has operated for a ship's power station has operated for a specified ling period,it is necessaryto have its systems and components inspected,maintained and repaired so as to enable the power station to run long period reliably.In this article,a 74500DWT bulk carrier being built in our shipyard is taken for example. Based on the calculations for the capacity required,two generator sets and a shaft generator are arranged for the power station on this ships. Analyses are made on different units of each generator set,and some reliability tests have been carried out at the same time. The maintenance procedure is thus prepared for the power station. The relatively easier operation and maintenance and lower cost of operation demonstrate the practical applicability of the power station of the ship.
