Stress analysis on cross-section of traditional dumbbell CFST arch rib which concrete filled into the web space and new dumbbell CFST arch rib which concrete not filled into the web space during the concrete was filled into the inner space are introduced in this paper. Analysis expressing the stress in the two connecting points of the web plates and the bottom steel tube of the traditional dumbbell is very large when concrete is filling into the web space, and easily causing some great cracks occurred in the weld sealing, which should causing the engineering field. The stress contribution in the cross-section is uniformity, and I-shaped steel in web space can result in reduction of stresses, when the concrete was filled into the new dumbbell.Total of 14 dumbbell CFST columns were tested under eccentric loading, those with 6 specimens which concrete filled into the web space and those with 8 specimens which concrete not filled into it. Experimental results indicate that, the portrait strain on the middle section of two type specimens keep on the plane with each loading. The maximum load of columns which concrete not filled into the web space is lower than those filled into it.The methods of modificatory lattice cross-section and equivalent circular CFST cross-section for calculating the maximum load of dumbbell CFST columns with eccentric loading were presented in this paper. The ultimate strength of 14 specimens were calculated by the two methods were close to experimental results. Finally, the two methods were used to calculate the ultimate strength of arch bridge of ZhengZhou Yellow River highway.
