The short-circuit test is essential to develop a new High Tc Superconducting Fault Current Limiter (HTSFCL). The performance of HTSFCL can be obtained by the short-circuit test. In the test, both high scan rate and high data acquiring precision must be achieved through the short-circuit test system. And the initial fault current angle when the short circuit occurs should also be accurately controlled.A 380V/25A short-circuit test system, which is used to test the HTSFCL, is developed and described in this thesis. The system is composed of two parts: the short-circuit test platform and the real-time data acquisition and control system. The short-circuit test platform consists of electric source, reactance, inductance and so on. The back-to-back connected thyristors are used as shorting switches. To test HTSFCL, the fault currents in the lines should be measured, no matter the HTSFCL is implemented or not. The ability of HTSFCL to limit the fault current could be learned by comparing these two set of results. The real-time data acquisition and control system is used to measure the fault current and control the initial fault current angle. The hardware of the system includes PCI data acquisition board, computer, voltage and current sensor, the initial fault current angle controller, the back-to-back connected thyristors controller and so on. The software is developed under LabVIEW. When data are transferred into computer, they are analyzed and processed and then a control signal is sent out to trigger the initial fault current angle controller, which riggers the back-to-back connected thyristors controller when the phase angle of line current is equal to the specified value. Then the back-to-back connected thyristors controller trigger the thyristors to short lines. With the short-circuit test system above, the 380V/25A HTSFCL was successfully tested. The results show that the short-circuit test system can satisfy all the requirements to test HTSFCL.
