In the present paper, a brief introduction to the movement of the dredged materials has been made. Based on the character of the movement, the governing equations to confine the movement are discussed, and a numerical model for computing water column concentrations and bottom deposition resulting from a dredged material disposal operation has been developed.Given a set of initial conditions, the governing equations on convective descent phase and dynamic collapse phase of the disposal cloud can be solved to yield the location and other physical characters of the cloud in different time history. Then the transportation and diffuseness of the material governed by the ambient current is simulated by using the turbulence diffusion equations. Results from model simulation on the Huangbaizui disposal site near the Dalian Harbor have been presented. From inspecting the results, the model can be used to predict the fate of dredged material in near field, and to afford the initial condition for computing the long-term fate of the dredged material.
