With the rapid advance of science and technology, Computer Integrated Manufacturing System (CIMS) turns out to be the direction of automated production in every enterprise. CIMS is a new type of manufacturing conception and technology form. The most remarkable character of it is integration, not only of the material flow, but also of the information flow. The CIMS System consists mainly of Management Information System, Quality Information System, Engineering Information System and Automation Workshop. The Tool Control System studied in this article is a significant part of Automation Workshop.This paper studies as well as analyses comprehensively hardware configuration and function realization of Tool Control System, putting special emphasis upon several key technologies, that's control strategy, tool monitor, database structure and so on. The following are the main achievements of this article. Research on tool dispatching strategy off line: Give some useful advices on the configuration of tool center. Put forward corresponding storage strategy according to different optimization target function. In the mean time, this thesis also advances a novel rapid tool-change method applied on Machining Center through which all the tools in magazine can be put at random, economizing the tool-search time by conventional methods. Strategy of tool allocation and dispatching on line: Bring forth several new methods on the ground of the results existed.(1) Viewing the target function of tool dispatching as an integer layout problem, introduce the heuristic method into research on tool dispatching strategy in line of FMS, and settle down the time-consume problem brought by analytic method.(2) Effective method to solve the problem of tool-change collection in working procedure.(3) As for the congeneric tools, adopt an average optimization control strategy and develop according appraisal function. This will increase the tool usage effectively without decreasing productivity of FMS. Study on tool monitor: List some popular surveillance methods and introduce in detail the merits or demerits respectively and the different FMS circumstances they adapt to. It has great reference value on the general design of Tool Control System in FMS. Realization of tool coding: Develop a flexible coding method. The ambiguity of code describing in traditional coding system is solved, resulting in information describing quickly, thorough and exactly. The code of the system is easy to be transplanted and expanded. Construction of database software model: Provide a kind of Tool Control System structure, resulting in the effective communication between database and program.
