Recently, an advanced composite material named Carbon Fiber Reinforced Plastic (CFRP) has emerged as an alternative to traditional strengthening materials. Many advantages such as lightweight, non-corrosive, simple construction, and high tensile strength make it widely used in strengthening field.As one of the most popular engineering software, ANSYS is expert in the field of civil engineering. It not only has great linear and nonlinear solution abilities, provides user developing platforms, such as APDL (ANSYS Parameter Design Language), UIDL (User Interface Design), UPFs (User Routines and Non-Standard Uses), etc. In this paper, firstly researching status of reinforced concrete structure strengthened with CFRP is introduced and their advantages and disadvantages is analyzed; Based on it, method is brought forwards, which includes using ANSYS in FEM analysis the structures and to develop a user element.The application of ANSYS in the field of civil engineering is investigated, which includes the selecting element type of the concrete, reinforcing bar and the CFRP and preferences; The application of non-linear solution options; handling constringency of non-linear; plane section assumption; coupling and the element birth and death.It is a question of secondary loading because of unloading part of loads before adhering CFRP. In this paper, simulated it successfully in element birth and death.According to a lot of experiments, bond is greatly important to the strengthening quality, so it is necessary to consider it in FEM analysis. According to the character of bond, simulating bond with Goodman element was brought forwards and a computer program is developed for it. Main works includes: ①numeric analysis flexural behaviors of reinforced concrete beam②numeric analysis reinforced concrete beam strengthened with CFRP③numeric analysis frame strengthened with CFRP ④numeric analysis by considering secondary loading ⑤numeric analysis by taking account into bond.Finally, optimization of number of plies of CFRP and the wrapping position of pole strengthened with CFRP is discussed a bit.
