Preliminary Study On Acoustics Of Living Room

With the development of economics and the consequent improvement of the living standards of people, it has become one of the inevitable objects in the research of residence design to meet the need of appreciating music, digital video disk (DVD), and other household visual-acoustic apparatus more comfortably and effectively in the living room. In the western countries, some relevant researches have already been carried on in the 1980s. However, in China there is no such report up to now. Therefore, study on acoustics of living room has been an urgent task for scholars in the field.The value of this article is that, through research to the national conditions, some suggestions have been proposed in details to guarantee the high quality of acoustics of living room in residence design as primary principles and methods for architects and designers of residence decoration.Firstly, this article puts forward three acoustic evaluative parameters that the good acoustics should guarantee: reverberation time, early reflected sound, sound coloration, after the analysis of the particularity of the acoustics space in living room on the basis of theoretical research. Secondly, many kinds of research methods, such as literature search and practical measurements in typical rooms, have been used to make comprehensive investigations of living room on its favoritism-arrangement of furniture and complication of decoration, its structure, and its current situation of acoustics. Through a large amount of firsthand materials, the inherent regularity has been found. With regard to some specific problems encountered in the process, the pointed answers are given by way of simulative experiments in laboratory. Those problems are as follows: the relation between RT curve and RASTI, different impacts caused by different acoustic characteristics on different standing waves, the changes of acoustic quality derived from different positions of sound absorption materials. Finally, on the basis of research mentioned above, this article comes up with different principles of acoustics decoration, according to different living room types and varied requests in using them, so as to create the high quality of acoustics of living room effectively.
