The reactance parameter is an important parameter in designing the Rare-earth Permanent Magnet Synchronous Machines (PMSM), as well as a important parameter in the research of electric machines' capabilities. Because of the diversity and complexity of PM electric machines rotor structure, the measurement of reactance is always the emphases and difficulty in the measurement of PMSM. The equipments and methods were on the level of manual operation, hi this paper, author paid a systemic research into three kinds of measure means: Direct Current Attenuation Method, Voltage Integral Method, and Direct Load Method; theoretically analyzed the measure methods of synchronous armature reaction reactance, and even developed a test system to automatically measure the synchronous armature reaction reactance. On the analysis of the data acquired with this system, the paper arrived at some rules on the armature reaction reactance of Rare-earth PMSM, and testified its reliability by experiment In this paper, four parts are included:1. The latest development on the measurement of PMSM reactance parameter, and the analysis of developing direction of modem techniques on reactance measurement.2. The investigation of the measure principles of Direct Current Attenuation Method, Voltage Integral Method, and Direct Load Method. Combined with the problems during the experiment,design a improved testing circuit of Direct Current Attenuation Method. The author introduces in detail the affection of adding magnetism, subtract magnetism of permanent magnet to reactance measurement, as well as the circuit and experiment condition under the influence of the cross saturation effect. And the author on the first time brings forward the method of determine the angle of zero power in Direct Current Attenuation Method by means of curve imitation, which provides a novel method to solve this difficult problem.3. Adopted the design thought of virtual instrument, the automatic reactance testing system and the instrument of power angle measurement are developed, which changethe traditional measure means based on manual operation, a new method is provided for measure the parameter of reactance.4. The changing law of the synchronous armature reaction reactance parameter of the Rare-earth Permanent Magnet Synchronous Machines is given out by analyzing the testing data, and the reliability of the testing instrument is proved by the experiment.
