The dredger is one of major facilities in the fields of channel dredge, hydro project, prevent or control flood, ocean development, seaport construction etc. At present, the management maintenance methods of dredger are primary Time Based Maintenance and Run-to-Breakdown Maintenance. With the development of dredger, existing management maintenance methods cannot satisfy with requirements of dredger management. Condition Based Maintenance offers a new development direction of dredger management. With the help of computer technology, faulty diagnosis, monitoring, the condition of dredger is monitored. Through this method, the cost of production and management can be cut effectively. Meanwhile, the facilities can produce value as much as it can in its life cycle.In this paper, on the basis of investigation in dredger and theoretic research further, The Monitoring and Diagnosis System for the dredger is developed. The major contents of the paper are as follows:1. Elementary knowledge and basic concept of vibration diagnosis are sum up. Meanwhile, signal processing methods are introduced;2. The vibration characteristics of the rotor system of the dredge pump in a dredger (1750 m3/h) are calculated and analyzed by using FEM (Element Finite Method). The FEM model of the rotor system is established, and the model analysis and the harmonic response analysis are carried out. The influence of the eccentricity mass moment, position of mass center and the bearing stiffness to the vibration characteristics of the rotor system is discussed in detail;3. To verify the exactness of FEM and learn the principle of vibration of dredge pump further, The orbit of the rotor shaft of the pump in the dredger is measured, the measurement results show: the repeat of the orbit of the rotor shaft is very bad when dredge pump is in the dredging mud condition. But, in the dredging water condition, the shaft orbit of dredge pump can be repeatedvery well. And the measurement results are consistent with the FEM calculation results, and the correction of the FEM model is verified;4. Monitoring System for the Dredge Pump is constructed adopted the Virtual Instrument Technology. All the system comprises sensors, A/D card and computers for industry. The theory of distribution and parallel are adopted in this system. The condition of dredge pump can be monitored effectively, and the fault can be detected at the beginning.The research work about the dredger monitoring in this paper is significant for maintenance management for the dredger. And with the help of research work above mentioned, maintenance management for dredger will be changed over from Time Based Maintenance to Condition Based Maintenance.
