There are three important subjects in future UAV system development direction. They are very high altitude, long-duration, multifunction and network-based operation. Network-based operation, informationalization, self-determination and synthesization are main development trend of Avionics. Multi-redundancy and multi-sensor self-determination (passive) fault-tolerance technologies are emphases in long-duration very high altitude UAV navigation system research. This paper presents the results of studies on collectivity scheme and some key technologies about the network-based navigation system which is composed by existing stations (e.g. radio beacon), unmanned air vehicles (e.g. relay UAV), other air-tactical serving vehicles and data relay satellites.Firstly, the paper gives out the structure and working principle of network-based navigation system. This includes its configuration, functions, characteristics and working process. Secondly, it provides some arithmetic and positioning methods used in the network-based navigation system and simulation outcomes. Then, the paper analyses some errors of network-based navigation system. It studies error propagation of relay positioning and gives simulation results. Last, the paper discusses a passive positioning technology and its usage in UAVs detection and location of enemy radars. Then analyses pinpointing errors through simulations.
