The current state of deep excavation engineering in Shanghai area is described and the main technology in the civil construction of Shanghai metro Xujiahui Station is analyzed in detail in this paper. Xujiahui metro Station, the biggest one in Shanghai Line 1 metro, is also No.l in Fast East district. It covers 606m in south to north direction and 21.9-24.5m wide, its excavation is 17.5-19.5m deep. The construction introduction and some test data are provided and some experience or lessons are included in this paper also. Several incidents during the construction are discussed and analyzed, which is useful reference to that type of civil engineering. This paper gives an overall introduction of main construction technology with regard to the civil project of shanghai metro Xujiahui station, which is a reference to the same kind of projects; the project inspection information was collected and analyzed, and can be regarded as reference to practical inspection theory; with regard to the typical accidents in the process of construction, the phenomena and the causes (main causes and inducements), were detailed stated, accumulating certain experience and lesson for construction of deep excavation in soft clay areas.Shanghai metro Line 1 and 2 are designed and constructed successfully, the predict of "metro in Shanghai is impossible because of the soft clay" is denied completely, and its experience is helpful to improve the metro design and construction in China.
