With the consideration of the soil mechanics approach on the study of structural loess, the deformation and strength of natural saturated structural K0-consolidated loess are studied in this paper when arrangement is the main factor. By considerating the initial anisotropy of clay and keeping all the tests starting from K0-consolidation, by removing the effect of the suction within the unsaturated soils, by reducing the cohesion, the author select saturated structural K0-consolidated loess as the object of the paper. The characteristics of deformation and strength of natural saturated structural K0-consolidated loess are studied by considerating the deformation and strength totally.Lots of tests are carried out for saturated loess (such as intact loess, disturbed loess), in the confined compression apparatus, and the routine triaxial apparatus as well as the triaxial apparatus respectively. The characteristics of deformation and strength of saturated structural Ko-consolidated loess are obtained by analyzing the result of the texts, especially by comparing with the deformation and strength of saturated disturbed loess.Based on the result of tests, a new model for saturated structural K0-consolidated loess is proposed by inducing an initial state varity. The model can be used to satruated structural K0 normally consolidated clay. We can describe initial anisotropy (K0-consolidation) by hardening differently, describe the structure of saturated structural K0-consolidated loess, and describe the dilatancy. We can describe the main mechanical behaviours of saturated structural K0-consolidated loess well by the model. There are few parameters in the model which are easy to obtain and to be used widely. Comparisions between measured and predicted stress-strain show that the proposed model can give better results.
